Summary: Did you know that researchers understand the role of metadata for data set discovery differently than librarians, publishers, or repository mangers? Each of these groups have a keen interest in making data sets more easily discoverable, but letting researchers lead with their knowledge about metadata will improve discoverability and reuse of data sets. This presentation, building on survey work executed by Metadata 2020’s researcher communications group, focuses on several key points of misalignment between researchers and other scholarly communications stakeholders as a place to begin filling in the gaps and suggests that the value of data sets can be enhanced for all stakeholders by different communication strategies with researchers.
