Dr Robert Darby, Research Data Manager and Dr Karen Rowlett, Research Publications Adviser, University of Reading Library
We will discuss the collaborative efforts of the Library Research Publications team and Research Data Manager at the University of Reading to stimulate a culture of Open Research, including but extending beyond Open Access. We focus on the benefits to the researcher rather than compliance. Initiatives include two successful Open Research-themed conferences for staff and research students, a University Statement on Open Research, an Open Research Award competition, a statement on responsible metrics, a Research Software Working Group to coordinate developing support for research programming and computational reproducibility, training courses and bespoke one-to-ones, and an evolving programme of ongoing Open Research communication and engagement activities. We are still at an early stage in our Open Research journey, but we can already see a growing awareness of the Open Research agenda among researchers and students and we have better buy-in from senior managers.
